Gold worth three crore seized in Karipur, five in custody

KOZHIKODE: In a major gold haul, the customs at the Calicut International Airport seized gold worth Rs 3 crore. Five people have been taken into custody. Those arrested are Muhammed Basheer, Muhammed Mithilaj, natives of Koduvally in Kozhikode, Aziz of Chelarkkad, Sameer and Abdul Zakir of Malappuram. Gold of 5460 grams were seized from them.

Six people were arrested today in connection with the gold smuggling. Another accused in the case, Ligesh, was earlier in the custody of the CISF. The accused are from different countries.


Muhammad Basheer from Riyadh, kept gold as capsules in his body. Muhammed Mithilaj expertly hid the gold in bed sheets. Sameer hid gold weighing more than a kg inside his body. Ligesh, a native of Kakkat in Kozhikode was arrested from outside the airport.
