16-year-old commits suicide after receiving fake message in name of cybercell

KOZHIKODE: A Plus One student committed suicide after receiving a fake message in the name of cyber cell. Adinath (16), a native of Chevayur, Kozhikode, was found dead in a flat in Chevayur on Wednesday. He is a Plus One student of Samoothiri High School in Thali. The message on the laptop said that he had to pay a fine of Rs 33900 for entering an illegal site and that the browser is locked and the computer is blocked.

The message also had the logo of the National Crime Records Bureau. "If the money is not paid, the police will be informed. You will be arrested. A fine of Rs.2 lakh will be imposed and you will be imprisoned for two years.", the message reads.

The fake message came while Adinath was watching a movie on my laptop. Police said that he got scared and committed suicide. A suicide note was also found in the room. Chevayur police registered a case of unnatural death.
