Double low pressure: Kerala to receive widespread rains till Monday

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state is receiving heavy rain following the formation of low pressure in the Arabian Sea along the Konkan Goa coast and North East Bay of Bengal. Widespread showers and thunderstorms are likely till Monday. Weather warning has been issued for hilly areas. A travel ban has been imposed in the hilly areas of Thiruvananthapuram.

Yellow alert is in place in all districts except Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta and Kottayam on Saturday.

There was heavy rain in Thiruvananthapuram, Kottayam and Alappuzha since yesterday morning. Cherthala received the most rainfall-150.5 mm. The was a rain of 148.4 mm in Arukutty and 138.6 mm in Kottayam. Thiruvananthapuram received 105 mm rain. Kasargod's Hosdurg had the least rain- 55 mm.


Strong wind speed up to 65 kmph is also likely over South Tamil Nadu coast, Gulf of Mannar, adjoining Kanyakumari coast, Central East Arabian Sea, South, Central and North Bay of Bengal and North Andaman Sea. Fishing is not allowed here.
