NAGERCOIL: Tamilnadu special police team arrested six Malayalees with ambergris worth Rs 36 crores in Marthandam. Vivekanandan from Thiruvananthapuram, Niji from Kollam, Jayan Dileep from Karakonam, Balakrishnan and Veeran from Palakkad were arrested.
On the instructions of District Police Chief Harikiran Prasad, a team led by SI Arulapan arrested the accused yesterday. The accused were caught after a search was carried out based on the information that a group was handing over ambergris near Marthandam railway station. Ambergris was brought from Palakkad. The police seized 36 kg of ambergris, an Innova car and a bike from the possession of the accused.
The investigating officer said that one kilo of amber grease is worth Rs 1 crore. Ambergris is used to make valuable perfumes. The accused were brought to the Marthandam police station and handed over to the forest officials.
