KULATHOOR: Municipal revenue inspector caught while accepting bribe. Arun Kumar (53), a native of Nedumangad and a resident of Melarannoor NGO Quarters, was arrested by the vigilance team. He was caught while accepting a bribe of Rs.2000 from a native of Vattiyoorkavu who approached him for an ownership certificate of the building.
A resident of Vattiyoorkavu had applied for a change of ownership of a newly purchased flat at Karimanal Kulathoor. Despite visiting the office several times, the certificate was not issued. The bribe amount was fixed later, through a temporary employee in the office but the official called him directly and said that the work would be done only if at least two thousand rupees were paid. The complainant informed Vigilance about the demand for bribe despite producing all the documents. Then, as per their instructions, the notes given by the vigilance were handed over to the Kulathoor zonal office yesterday evening. That's when the vigilance team dressed in lungi nabbed the accused. A 16-member team led by DYSP R Vinod Kumar of Maruthamkuzhi Vigilance Unit nabbed the accused. The team included Inspectors Sanal Kumar and Anil Kumar, SIs Ajith Kumar, Sanjay, ASI Anil, SCPOs Hashim, Arun, Anish, Pramod, Kiran, Anoop, Jasim and Anand. This is the fourth raid in two years. It is alleged that most of the corruption and bribery takes place in this zonal area, which includes a major portion of Technopark.
