Munnar encroachment: Task force can proceed, says HC

hc

KOCHI: The Kerala government informed the High Court that it has appointed a task force to evacuate encroachments in Munnar. The High Court then said that the task force can go ahead with the work. A division bench comprising Justice A Muhammad Mushtaq and Justice Shobha Annamma Eepan said this while considering the petitions filed by the Thrissur-based organization One Earth One Life seeking to stop encroachment and illegal construction in Munnar region.

The High Court has directed an amicus curiae report on what methods can be adopted to study the carrying capacity of hill stations, including Munnar. Earlier, the High Court had asked the Geological Survey of India whether the committee appointed to conduct such a study in the Himalayan states could be made available here.
