STOCKHOLM: 2023 Nobel in Chemistry to three American researchers. The Nobel Prize winners are Moungi Bawendi, Louis Brus and Alexei Ekimov. The discovery and synthesis of quantum dots is what made the trio eligible for the award.
The awarding committee considered that these scientists have sown the seeds for new developments in nanotechnology with the discovery of quantum dots.

The concept of quantum dots was first introduced by Alexei Ekimov in 1981. Quantum dots are extremely fine nano-semiconductor particles. They can be used to visualize the microscopic details of cells and tissues and play a crucial role in cancer treatment.
