Migrant workers clash among themselves after being informed that there is no work; three people injured

IDUKKI: A clash broke out among a group of migrant workers in Chemmannar in Idukki. The clash broke out among the labourers of the tea company near Elappara. According to sources, a dispute over work led to the clash. Three people were injured in the incident. The incident happened today morning.

When the labourers came to work in the morning, the company officials informed them that some people would not be having work for the day. Following this, a dispute broke out among the workers, which eventually resulted in the clash. The injured have been admitted to the hospital. No one was seriously injured. The police said that they would register a case after recording the statement regarding the incident.

In June, a migrant worker was killed following a dispute among friends in Kochi. The deceased was Bengal native Azad. Police had arrested Azad's friend Zakeer in the incident. In a similar incident, a clash had broken among migrant workers in Pathanamthitta three months ago. One person suffered stab injuries. The fight broke out among migrant workers who were living together. While Bengal native Githu suffered stab wounds, four others sustained minor injuries.

Kerala is one of the states in the country where the number of migrant workers is rising sharply. As per unofficial figures, there are more than 40 lakh migrant workers in the state. The number of crimes involving migrant workers is also on the rise in the state. Even the figures from the government show that murder cases involving migrant workers are increasing day by day. As many as 159 migrant workers were named accused in murder cases between May 2016 and August 2022.
