deepfake-trauma-mumbai

MUMBAI: On Monday, news portals headlined the name Rashmika Mandanna, after a deepfake video of her surfaced on the internet, inflicting trauma on the actress. Social media influencer Sara Patel's face was replaced with Rashmika's face in the video. Actor Amitabh Bachchan among others came forward demanding legal action for the crime.

The controversy over the issue is still smouldering when another such deepfake video has attracted eyes in social media. And this time, Bollywood actress Katrina Kaif fell prey to the manipulation crime. Some fake picture is circulating on social media in the name of movie 'Tiger 3'.

In the movie, Kaif is dressed in a towel, fighting a Hollywood actress. However, in the AI video, the towel was changed into a low-cut bralette and the lower portion was manipulated to show her white lingerie. AI tools have the capacity to modify images and make them look better than the original version.

With the series of deepfake pictures getting viral, a section of social media has come out demanding strong action against the crime. After the incident, Union Minister of State for IT Rajeev Chandrasekhar responded that digital platforms have a responsibility to prevent fake content as per the IT Act. He also clarified that these should be removed within 36 hours if brought to the attention of the government or the user.
