AHMEDABAD: In the ODI Cricket World Cup final, Australian captain Pat Cummins surprised everyone by choosing to bowl first after winning the toss against India. Cummins explained his decision stating that the pitch was dry affected by night snow and expected to favour the team batting second. However, Indian captain Rohit Sharma expressed his preference to bat first had he won the toss emphasizing his dream to lead the team in the final.
The match took place at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on pitch number five which had notably changed from its earlier conditions during the India-Pakistan game. Former Indian player Ravi Shastri highlighted the pitch's transformation and stressed the importance of setting a high target by batting first.
India, batting first managed to score a relatively low 240 runs before being bowled out. In response, Australia successfully chased the target winning by 4 wickets in 43 overs and securing their sixth World Cup title.
