KOZHIKODE: Renowned writer P Valsala passed away here at a private hospital on Tuesday. She was eighty-five years old. Valsala was admitted to the hospital on Tuesday night following an exacerbation of heart disease at his daughter's residence in Mukkam. She died at 10.52 pm.
Valsala was born on 23rd August 1938. She is the daughter of Kanangottu Chanthu and Eliparath Padmavathi. Her husband is retired teacher M Appukutty. Children: Dr. Mini, Arun (New York), in-laws: Dr. Neenakumar (Retd. Deputy Director Veterinary Service), Kasthuri (New York). She was a head teacher at Govt Training School, Kozhikode.
Valsala has won many accolades including Sahitya Akademi Award and Ezhuthachchan Award. Nellu is her famous novel. Ramu Karyattu has made a movie with the same name. She also won the Kerala Sahitya Award for Nizhalurangunna Vazhikal. Agneyam, Gauthaman, Palayam, Chaver, Arakkillam, Thakarcha, Koomankolli, Numberukal and Vilapam are her other major works. Her funeral will be held later.
