Government to reconsider unified allotment termination for B.Sc nursing management seats in private colleges; Discussions planned

nursing-

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Government intervention is underway to reconsider the management's decision to terminate unified allotment for B.Sc nursing management seat admissions in private nursing colleges within the state. The Principal Secretary of the Health Department will convene a discussion with management representatives on May 2. Representatives from the Private Nursing College Management Association of Kerala and the Christian Self-Financing Nursing College Management Association have been summoned for the discussion.

Kerala Kaumudi recently reported that the management's decision to impose a fee of 1000 rupees in each college and require a separate application will create financial hardships for students and undermine the existing merit-based admission system for management seats.

For the past seven years, admission to management seats has been facilitated through online applications and unified allotment. Students could apply to up to 10 colleges across the state by paying a fee of Rs 1000. However, the management has opted to discontinue the unified allotment and conduct separate admissions, citing the proposal that the GST association should remit 18 percent of this application fee to the government. Since the introduction of unified allotment in 2017, a dispute over GST payment has been ongoing in the High Court. Initially, only fees without GST were collected from applicants. The association's stance is that they can no longer afford to pay GST. However, Christian managements began charging GST in addition to fees last year.
