THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The 16-hour strike by workers at Milma, which halted packing and distribution, has been settled. The union leaders demanded that the employees should be given a written guarantee that they will be promoted. Milma Chairperson Mani Viswanath agreed to do so during the discussion and the strike ended at 10 pm. The strike was in Ambalathara, Kollam and Pathanamthitta dairies under Thiruvananthapuram Regional Union. Processing of lakhs of litres of milk was halted and milk could not be delivered to the shops because of this.

Milma region chairperson Mani Vishwanath was blockaded on Monday alleging that workers were not considered while giving promotions to top officials year after year. On Milma's complaint, the police had registered a case against INTUC and CITU workers.

The strike started on Tuesday morning demanding the withdrawal of cases and promotion of workers. About four and a half lakh liters of milk is sold in Thiruvananthapuram region every day.

Milma Thiruvananthapuram Regional Union Chairperson Mani Vishwanath, Managing Director P Murali, VJ Joseph representing INTUC Union of Milma and S Saleem for CITU participated in the discussion.
