CHENNAI: The airport security officers on Sunday found 40 live bullets in the baggage of actor turned politician Karunas at Chennai airport. The actor was about to board an Indigo flight to Tiruchi.

The bullets were discovered during a routine security check. During questioning, Karunas told police officials that he had a handgun, with a license, for his protection.

According to his statement to the officials, as the Model Code of Conduct is in force he handed over the gun to the Dindigul police station but accidentally left the bullets in his bag.

Karunas also produced the documents showing that he had surrendered his gun to the Dindigul police station.

The security officials verified this claim with the Dindigul police station and found Karunas’s statement to be true. After this, Karunas was allowed to travel to Tiruchi.
