Car carrying patient catches fire, narrow escape for passengers; alert issued

KOCHI: A car in Angamaly caught fire and the vehicle was completely engulfed in flames. The passengers of the car escaped miraculously as they ran out before the fire spread.

The accident happened Sunday morning at 5:45 am when the car was going to the hospital with a patient. The car belongs to Ashiq living near Aluva UC College. On reaching Angamaly, the passengers noticed smoke from the front side of the car. They immediately stopped the car and the three ran from the place. The car was engulfed in flames within seconds. The fire was extinguished by the fire brigade from Angamaly. Initial reports said short circuit from the battery is the cause of the accident.

One person was charred to death in Kozhikode on Friday after his car caught fire.


P Mohandas, aged 68, owner of Kozhikode Automobiles died tragically after his car caught fire. He was a former driver of Kozhikode Corporation and a resident of Chelannur Punnassery. He owns Neelakandan Automobiles on Chelapram Road. The incident happened around 12.30 pm while he was coming from Kozhikode beach towards Vengali.
The passers-by saw the WagonR that Mohandas was driving on fire and alerted him. The fire spread when he parked the car on the roadside. The fishermen in the beach tried to save him, but the seat belt was stuck. He had died by the time the beach fire brigade and Vellail police reached the spot and doused the flames. The initial conclusion is that short circuit is the cause of the fire. They shifted the body to the Beach Hospital.


There have been many incidents of cars catching fire while driving in the hot summer. Many said that the main reason for this was excessive heat in the atmosphere. However, the authorities of the motor vehicle department cited illegal installation of lights and other reasons for it. The authorities have asked to be very careful in this regard.
