All 22 victims from Kerala identified; MoS Kirti Vardhan Singh reaches Kuwait

KUWAIT CITY: All 22 Malayalees, who died in the Kuwait Mangaf fire tragedy have been identified as of Thursday evening. It is reported that a total of 49 people died in the accident of which 42 are Indians. 24 Malayalees are among the deceased.

Union Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh held a meeting with Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Abdullah Ali Al Yahya, who assured full support to the fire victims including medical assistance, repatriation of bodies and investigation into the incident.

Seven Malayalees injured in the fire tragedy are continuing in the critical stage. NORKA CEO said that the mortal remains of the victims will be brought to Kerala at the earliest. Meanwhile, the Kerala CMO also confirmed the total number of victims from Kerala as 24.

In the wake of the tragedy, the illuminative lights in the capital city of Thiruvananthapuram will be switched off to pay respect to the deceased Keralites. The ceremony to honour Malayalam filmmakers who shone at the Cannes Film Festival, which was to be held at Mascot Hotel, Thiruvananthapuram, was shifted to the Chief Minister's Chamber. The ceremony regarding the program stays cancelled.
