KOCHI: Excise on Sunday caught a Bengali couple after they tried to smuggle heroin, which was stocked in small bottles and stuck to the woman's body. Tania Parveen (18), a native of Noapara, West Bengal and Baharul Islam (24), (known as Kabuthar Setu) a native of Nagaon, Assam, were arrested. 33 grams of high morphine content heroin worth Rs 10 lakh in the market, 25 grams of ganja and Rs 19,500 were found from the couple.

When caught, 100 grams of heroin were kept in 200 small bottles to be handed over to dealers. 550 empty bottles were also recovered.

The drugs Tania Parveen smuggled will be meticulously filled into a bottle by Baharul. The information about the Bengal couple was received from a youth arrested two months ago. A special team of the State Excise Enforcement Squad headed by Circle Inspector G. Krishnakumar was tracking the move of the couple for a long. It is normal for the couple to complete the business in Kerala and usually return to Bengal with good money. To avoid the scrutinizing eyes of the police, they made sure to choose different locations for their stay whenever in Kerala.

The phone was tracked by the officials to get an idea about their whereabouts. The residence was surrounded later and the arrest was recorded. It is concluded that the drugs are being supplied from Karimganj in Assam, which is close to the international border.
