Railway Safety Commission will investigate Darjeeling train disaster: Ashwani Vaishnav

KOLKATA: Union Minister Ashwani Vaishnav has announced that the Railway Safety Commission will conduct an inquiry into the Darjeeling train disaster. He was speaking to the media after visiting the accident site. The minister also said that a detailed investigation will be conducted regarding the cause of the accident. The minister announced a financial assistance of Rs 10 lakh to the families of the deceased and Rs 2.5 lakh to the seriously injured.

15 people died in Kanchenjunga Express goods train accident. Railway officials informed that three compartments of the train derailed. The accident happened this morning. The Kanchenjunga Express, which was travelling from Silchar in Assam to Sealdah in Kolkata, was hit by a goods train from behind as it neared Rangapani station near New Jalpaiguri. Rescue operations have been completed at the site.
