THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Indian Meteorological Department has warned that the rains will intensify again in the state. An orange alert has been issued in Kannur and Kasaragod districts on Tuesday due to the possibility of heavy rain. Yellow alert has also been announced in seven districts including Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Idukki, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Wayanad.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has announced that heavy rain will continue for the next five days. People in the coastal and hilly areas are also advised to be extremely cautious as there is a possibility of strong winds along with rain with thunder and lightning. Wind gusts up to 40 km per hour are possible. A special vigilance warning has also been issued on the coasts of Kannur, Kasaragod and Thiruvananthapuram districts. Due to continued bad weather at sea, fishing has been banned in Kerala, Lakshadweep and Karnataka coasts till next Friday. The rainfall in the state is the result of the influence of the low pressure area that exists from Maharashtra to the Kerala coast.

The weather forecast says that there is a possibility of heavy rain in 9 districts of the state in the coming hours. According to the notification issued at 8 pm, there is a possibility of moderate rain at isolated places in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Kozhikode and Kannur districts of Kerala in the next 3 hours. The IMD has informed that there is a possibility of light rain at isolated places in other districts.
