MUMBAI: Reports that Jay Shah is preparing to step down as BCCI secretary. The action is aimed at the position of International Cricket Council (ICC) chairman. It is reported that he is preparing to resign as BCCI secretary to run for the post of chairman. Greg Barclay has been the Chairman of the International Cricket Council since 2020.

The ICC Annual Conference will be held in Colombo, Sri Lanka this month. Before that, there may be a final decision on Jay Shah contesting for the post of chairman. The policy to be formulated in matters including election to the post of Chairman will be decided at the Annual Conference. The election for the post of ICC Chairman will be held in November this year.

Jay Shah has been working as the secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India since 2019. If Jay Shah is elected as the ICC chairman, he will become the youngest chairman. Meanwhile, neither BCCI nor Jay Shah has officially responded on this issue.

Former players were of the opinion that Jay Shah is performing well at the helm of the BCCI. Sunil Gavaskar opined that Jay Shah is doing very well but the politicizers are not giving him the appreciation he deserves.
