Woman not bitten by snake, it wasn't approppriate to refer her to district hospital, says health department director

PALAKKAD: There is a fresh development in the incident where a woman came to the Chittoor taluk hospital with her daughter apparently got bitten by a snake. Health department director KJ Reena has now informed that after detailed inpsection, it was found that the woman was not bitten by a snake and it was not appropriate to refer the woman to Palakkad district hospital.

The taluk hospital has all the facilities including antivenom, the woman should have been kept under observation in the taluk hospital itself. A non-venomous snake was seen on the broom outside. On seeking treatment at the hospital, the child was asked to check her urine. Her urine fell on the floor, and her mother went to wash it when she saw the snake on the broom.

The director of the health department has sought an explanation from the hospital superintendent and the doctor regarding the incident.
