NEW DELHI: 12 Maoists were killed following an hours-long encounter in Maharashtra's Gadchiroli district. Several weapons including AK 47 were seized. It is reported that Laxman, a notorious Maoist leader in the region, is among those killed.
The Maharashtra Police launched a special operation around 10 am yesterday following information that 15 Maoists were hiding in the forest near Vandoli village on the Chhattisgarh border. The firing between the police and the Maoists started in the afternoon and lasted for six hours. A sub-inspector and a policeman were injured. They are undergoing treatment at a hospital in Nagpur and are out of danger.
