NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is planning to visit Kyiv on 24th of next month on the occasion of Ukraine National Day. This is Modi's first visit to Kyiv since the Russia-Ukraine war that started in 2022. It is reported that Modi will meet the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky.
Modi's visit is part of global efforts to bring peace to countries. So far, there has been no official announcement from either country regarding the new move.
Modi last met with Zelensky during the G7 summit in Apulia, Italy on 14th of last month. The Indian Ministry of External Affairs said that the meeting between the two leaders was to strengthen bilateral relations. The two discussed the situation in Ukraine and the summit to be hosted by Switzerland. Modi also said that India continues to encourage that the issue can be resolved through diplomacy and peace.
Modi and Zelensky also met at the G7 summit held in Japan last year. Modi is planning to visit Ukraine after a two-day visit to Russia. The visit was on the eighth of this month.
Modi had a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. He also attended a dinner hosted by Putin. Modi thanked Putin through X after the visit. Meanwhile, Putin also appreciated Modi's development activities for the progress of India.
