Major reshuffle; President Droupadi Murmu appoints nine new governors

NEW DELHI: Tamil Nadu former BJP president CP Radhakrishnan, who was the governor of Jharkhand, has been appointed as the governor of the soon-to-be-polled state of Maharashtra. Jishnu Dev Verma, former deputy chief minister of Tripura and BJP leader, is the new governor of Congress-ruled Telangana.
Senior BJP leader and former Union Minister Santosh Gangwar, who won six consecutive terms from Uttar Pradesh's Bareilly but was defeated in the last election, has been appointed as Jharkhand Governor. He is a prominent member of the Kurmi community in UP and Bihar.

Former MP from Assam Ramen Deka has been appointed in Chhattisgarh and former Maharashtra Speaker and BJP leader Haribhau Kisanrao Bagde has been appointed in Rajasthan. Former Rajya Sabha member Om Prakash Mathur will become the Governor of Sikkim.

CH Vijayashankar, a former MP from Karnataka who left the BJP to join the Congress and returned in 2019, has been appointed as the Governor of Meghalaya.

Gulab Chand Kataria, the Governor of Assam, was made the Governor of Punjab and the Administrator of the Union Territory of Chandigarh. A senior BJP leader, Kataria was earlier a minister in Rajasthan.

Lakshman Prasad Acharya, the Governor of Sikkim, was appointed as the Governor of Assam. He also has the additional charge of Governor of Manipur. He is a BJP leader from Uttar Pradesh. The appointment will come into effect from the date of their assumption of charge.
