THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state government has decided not to increase the price of lottery tickets in the state for the time being. At present, lottery tickets which are drawn in six days in the state are priced at Rs. 40 each and fifty-fifty lottery tickets are priced at Rs. 50. The idea was to raise the price to Rs 50 for every ticket as part of unifying the price of lottery tickets. However, the government withdrew the decision considering the opposition of the lottery agents.
The ticket price was increased from Rs 30 to Rs 40 earlier. After this action, there was a significant reduction in ticket sales in the state. It was only after a while that more people were willing to pay Rs 40 for tickets. Agents pointed out that they are just recovering from the loss due to people not buying tickets due to the price hike to Rs 40, and increasing the ticket price to Rs 50 would affect sales.
However, the government did not accept the demand to reduce the price of fifty-fifty tickets. The first prize for Onam Bumper may continue to be Rs 25 crore this year as well. There may be no change in the ticket price. The ticket price will be 500 rupees. Due to record sales last year, more tickets might be printed this time. 75.76 lakh tickets were sold last time out of 85 lakh tickets printed.
