KOZHIKODE: A man has been reported missing in the landslide that hit Vilangad in Vadakara taluk on Tuesday. A search is underway for him under the leadership of NDRF. The Malayankadu bridge was washed away in a landslide.

Four houses on the banks of the river were partially destroyed and 15 families were stranded after the bridge collapsed. There are no reports of casualties in the area so far. People on the banks of the river have been relocated.

About 80 meters of the Kaithapoyil road was buried under the soil. Seven families were relocated from here. Landslides also occurred in the Pasukkadavu area in the Maruthonkara village of Kuttiyadi. Due to the inundation of the Kadantara River, the residents living nearby in Prikanthode, Centermuk and Pidikapura areas have been moved to safer places in Nellikunnu.

Two shutters were raised by four feet as the water level rose in Kakkayam Dam. A warning has been issued on the banks of Kuttiyadi River. Officials say that the water level in Poonoor River, Mahe River, Kuttiyadi River, Chaliyar and Cherupuzha has reached a dangerous level due to continued heavy rains in the district. Coastal residents have been warned.

A total of 854 people from 196 families live in 41 camps in the district. Many were transferred to relatives' homes. Strict restrictions have been imposed in Kozhikode district due to heavy rains. A ban has been imposed on tourist spots in the district while officials also warned people to avoid journeys through Thamarassery route.
