MUMBAI: There are reports that Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis may become BJP national president. The current National President JP Nadda will soon step down due to his ministerial post.

Local media reports that Fadnavis' exceptional leadership and organizational style are the qualities seen by the central leadership. Along with this, Fadnavis's ability to strategize flawlessly is also a plus point. Fadnavis also has strong support from the RSS. They believe that this will be able to take the BJP in favour of their position. RSS had come out against the BJP for its poor performance in the Lok Sabha elections.

Reports say that Modi favours Fadnavis more than anyone else for the post of President. Fadnavis visited Modi with his family last week. Following this, the talk surfaced that he will be the next president.

At present there are no leaders in the Maharashtra BJP who can stand at the head with Fadnavis. Assembly elections are being held in the state in October. The party leadership fears that suddenly making Fadnavis the national president at this juncture may be a setback for the BJP in the state. Therefore, he will be appointed as working president initially. According to reports, the BJP central leadership has decided to elevate him to the post of national president after the election.

There are also reports that state general secretary Vinod Tawde will lead the party in the assembly elections as it is almost certain that Fadnavis will become the national president. But the party has not responded in this regard either. Some leaders say that the BJP does not have the habit of facing elections by projecting one person to the post of Chief Minister. They also point out that if a strong person does not come to the leadership position, the BJP's position in the state may deteriorate. BJP was unable to make significant gains in the recent Lok Sabha elections.
