Sajin Parekkara, a native of Upputhara in Idukki, shared on social media that his wife, Bhavana, was ready to nurse any children orphaned by landslides in Wayanad. Following this, phone calls from relief camps began asking the couple to come to Wayanad as soon as possible.

The couple, along with their children, left Idukki at night in a pickup truck. Bhavana had previously discussed this decision with Kerala Kaumudi Online.

"I am a mother of two babies, currently breastfeeding my second child. When I saw in the news that there were babies who had lost their mothers due to the calamity, I felt compelled to help. As a mother, I thought, why not breastfeed these babies? My husband supported me, and no one at home opposed the idea. Other children are also like our own, so I decided to come forward," Bhavana explained.

Upon reaching Wayanad, they tried to contact the callers from the relief camp, but no one answered the phone. Despite realizing they had been tricked, the couple decided to stay in Wayanad, hoping to help any baby in need. Unfortunately, their four-month-old baby developed an allergy during their stay. Sajin shared more details with Kerala Kaumudi Online.

"I haven't gone back yet. I posted on Facebook that if any babies need breast milk, they should call before we leave. We can provide milk and then leave. I might return tonight or tomorrow morning.

We are now in Wayanad, and many have contacted us. Many of the mothers in the ICU have recovered and currently, there are no very young children who are orphaned. I don't know if there are any houses or isolated places where we might be needed, but I have given my number to the camp," Sajin said.

Staying with relatives

The family is staying with relatives in Wayanad. Their baby developed an allergy, possibly due to the long travel and the use of Pampers. The baby was shown to a doctor, but the issue persists. They plan to return home soon to seek better medical care.

Negative comments

The couple has faced many negative comments online. Sajin mentioned hearing about a local person being attacked for posting a negative comment about their situation, although they do not support such actions. "Doesn't he have a family too?" Sajin remarked. Despite the negative media coverage, they are focusing on their intention to help rather than getting bogged down by criticism.
