Four more down with fever after bathing in pond; one confirmed of rare amoebic disease

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Four more are down with fever after bathing in the same pool, where a youth had died of amoebic encephalitis. The hospital authorities informed that one of them undergoing treatment in the medical college hospital has been confirmed of the disease. The health department has collected the samples and have sent for testing.

The people undergoing treatment are Aneesh (26) of Plavarathala, Achu (25) of Poothamcode, Harish (27) near Poothamcode and Dhanush (26) of Bodhi Nagar. Among them, Aneesh has been confirmed of the disease. The others have similar symptoms.

Akhil alias Appu (27) of Anulal Bhavan at Kannaravila Poothamcode had died on July 23. He had fever 10 days before his death. He first sought treatment at a private hospital near his house. His relatives said that he had severe headache.

Akhil had sustained serious head injuries after falling from a tree 10 years ago. He underwent a surgery at Kolencherry Malankara Medical College hospital then. His relatives said that he sought treatment in the same hospital to examine whether it was related to it. He died while undergoing treatment in the ICU of the medical college hospital.
