NEW DELHI: Pulsar Suni, the first accused in the actor assault case, has moved the Supreme Court for bail. He cited health issues in the bail plea. Suni had earlier moved the high court seeking bail, but it was rejected. The government argued that he should not be granted bail as the trial was in the final phase. Accepting this, the court rejected his bail plea.
The Supreme Court had earlier granted bail to Martin Antony, the second accused in the case in which actor Dileep is also an accused. Advocates Sriram Parakkad and M S Vishnu Shankar Chithara filed the plea on behalf of Suni. Suni was arrested on February 23 in 2017. He was not granted bail later.
The high court had imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on Suni for repeatedly filing bail pleas. Suni filed another plea, three days after a bail plea was rejected. The court had also opined then that there is someone behind the curtain to file continuous bail pleas.
Suni, who has been in jail for nearly seven years, has filed bail pleas ten times in the high court alone. The court also pointed that he had approached the Supreme Court twice. The court’s remark that there is someone behind the accused was after pointing that despite being in jail for years, Suni is filing bail pleas not with the help of the Legal Services Authority, but through his own appointed lawyers.
