Postpartum depression; woman commits suicide by setting herself on fire

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A woman committed suicide by setting herself on fire inside her house. The incident took place in Nedumangad Kallara. Suma (37), a native of Muthuvila, committed suicide by pouring kerosene on herself and setting herself on fire.

The incident happened around 11.30 am today. The severely burnt woman was admitted to Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital but she died in the afternoon. Suma's husband Sharath is a workshop employee. They have two children. The incident happened when after the children went to school and no one was home.

After closing the doors on both sides of the house, the woman poured kerosene on her body and set herself on fire. Neighbors who heard the scream broke the door and put out the fire. Venjarammoodu fire brigade also reached the spot.

Relatives said Suma was under a lot of stress after her second delivery. Physical problems were also bothering her after childbirth. Pangodu police have registered a case in the incident.
