THALASSERY: The Kannur Sessions Court rejected the bail plea of the defendants on the complaint that they had extorted Rs 150 crore from the industrial and commercial establishments in Dubai. The court proceedings are in the case of Edakkad police charging against Prince Subramaniam of Alappuzha and Mahalakshmi Suvendran of Changanassery. The complaint was filed by Sajith of Kannur Kizhunna.
The Sessions Court rejected the anticipatory bail plea of the accused, upholding the prosecution's contention that in prima facie cases of breach of trust and forgery, the accused should be questioned in custody. According to the complaint filed by Sajith, the gang embezzled Rs 50 crore from his establishment in Ras Al Khaimah, Rs 8.60 crore from another company ‘Next Scaffolding Industries’ and Rs 8.10 crore from the establishment in Hamriyah Free Zone.
Sajith, who runs companies including Wellgates Industries in Dubai, had given a power of attorney to Prince Subramaniam, MD of Extreme International Consultancy, which operates in Dubai and Kochi, for handling legal affairs. Prince was paid one lakh dirham for the assigned job.
However, Sajith smelled foul after Prince was doubted to have taken the company's account information, banking information and customer information. Sajith then assigned the task to family friend Mahalakshmi Suvendran. Mahalakshmi was given signed blank cheque leafs to pay in instalments as per legal advice after Sajith faced a travel ban upon reaching Kerala to clear the financial liability.
However, the fraud was soon out and Sajith filed a case against both in Dubai and other emirates. The power of attorney issued to both of them was revoked by the UAE court on February 15, 2023. However, Sajith went ahead with a complaint saying that the duo is still burdening him financially through the blank cheques collected earlier.
