KOCHI: A tanker lorry caught fire this morning near the Collectorate in Kakkanad. The incident occurred around 11:00 am as the tanker was travelling towards Palarivattam. The driver noticed smoke coming from the vehicle and promptly stopped it on the road. Fortunately, he managed to exit the vehicle in time, avoiding any injuries.
Fire force from Thrikkakara arrived quickly and extinguished the fire. The cause of the fire remains unclear. The large fire and billowing smoke caused panic among nearby residents and passersby.
This incident is part of a concerning trend, as it marks the sixth such occurrence in the district within two months. In July, a KSRTC Swift bus caught fire in Aluva, with the driver’s timely action preventing a major accident. On July 4th, a car caught fire on the Thevara-Kundannur bridge. A mother and son from Nettur were in the car, but they managed to escape unharmed after noticing the smoke. A nearby drinking water tanker was used to extinguish the fire.
