Adieu Paris! Final day drama breaks Chinese hearts

PARIS: The 33rd edition of the modern Olympics in Paris will see curtains by Sunday night. The closing ceremonies will start at 12.30 am IST at the Stade de France in Paris. PR Sreejesh and Manu Bhaker will be Indian flagbearers at the closing ceremony.

Pure drama ensued on the closing day, as US defeated host France in women's basketball by just one point, only to sink Chinese hearts and get crowned champions of the Olympics 2024. USA and China won 40 gold each from Paris. 126 medals including 44 silver and 42 bronze came to the account of the United States while China won a total of 91 medals including 27 silver and 24 bronze.

India’s medal cabinet includes 1 silver and 5 bronze from Paris. India is ranked 71st. In the closing ceremony lasting two and a half hours, the mayor of Los Angeles, Karen Bass, received the Olympic flag from the mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo. The Olympics will be held in Los Angeles in 2028.
