MEPPADI: Two more body parts were recovered from the banks of Chaliyar River during search for people missing in the landslides that struck Mundakkai and Chooralmala in Wayanad. The body parts were recovered from Munderi Iruttukuthi and from Chaliyar Kottupara Kadavu. The search is continuing in places including Soochipara area.
Seven teams are conducting the search from Kalakkan river to Soochipara third waterfall. Fire force, NDRF, forest and volunteers are part of the search at various places. Government agencies are conducting searches in problematic areas and volunteers in the rest.
The DNA test results of unidentified bodies and body parts will be released from today. Samples of about ninety percent of the people staying in the relief camps had been collected earlier. The dead will be identified after matching with it.
Meantime, the three body parts found from Kanthanpara and Soochipara waterfalls yesterday could not be airlifted due to the adverse weather conditions. The volunteers finally carried the three body parts to Meppadi. These have been sent for post-mortem. The bone piece recovered from Attamala has also been sent for testing to confirm whether it is that of a human. An expert team appointed by the disaster management authority will visit the site next week to carry out a detailed inspection of the landslide area and recommend whether these areas are habitable.
