THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala Bank to write off all loans of Chooralmala branch in wake of Mundakai landslides. In the meeting of the bank's management committee, it was decided to write off all the loans of the borrowers of the Chooralmala branch who died and the ones who lost their houses and properties.
The bank authorities have not shared information about how many people have loans and how much loan amount will be written off. At present, it has been decided to write off the loans of nine people in the preliminary list. It is reported that the bank is writing off about Rs 29 crore in loans. Kerala Bank had given Rs 50 lakh to the Chief Minister's Relief Fund and had earlier informed that the employees of the bank have voluntarily decided to donate five days' salary as well.
Loans of deceased persons are being written off. Kerala Bank Director P Gagarin told the media that a decision will be taken soon regarding the borrowers staying in the camps.
More than 400 people died in the Wayanad landslide. There are 1770 people including 658 men, 673 women and 439 children belonging to 599 families in 15 relief camps. There are 14 landslide disaster camps and one camp started as part of the monsoon disaster at Kadachikunnu.
