Dona consumed pill to abort, decided to deliver secretly when plan failed

ALAPPUZHA: Some crucial information has surfaced in connection with the death of the newborn baby under mysterious circumstances in Thakazhi. The baby's mother, Dona Joji (22) of Poochakkala had tried to abort the baby.

Dona believed that the baby got aborted after consuming the pill, but she later realized that her plan had failed. She and her lover Thomas Joseph (24) of Thakazhi Kunnumma decided to take a decision after delivering the baby secretly.

She gave birth on August 7 at 1.30 am at her home. The child's death is suspected to be murder. She did not breastfeed the baby. She wrapped the baby with a cloth and handed it over to her boyfriend in a polythene cover. Thomas and his friend Ashok Joseph (30) buried the baby in the middle of a bund of a paddy field in Thakazhi Vandepuram.

The woman was admitted to the hospital following bleeding. Only then came to know about the delivery. When the doctors asked her about the baby, she told them that she handed over the baby to her lover. The doctor in his statement said that she told him that the baby had cried soon after the delivery. When asked about this, she told police that the baby cried soon after birth but did not cry after that. The baby's death will be clarified only after getting the post-mortem report.
