THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that various districts in Kerala are likely to receive heavy rain at night. The IMD stated that isolated places in Kollam, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur and Palakkad districts are likely to receive moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning and strong winds blowing gusting up to a speed of up to 40kmph.
A low-pressure area prevails at a height of up to 900 m from Rayalaseema to the Comorin region. As a result, Kerala is likely to receive moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning for the next five days.

Following the rain warning, the IMD has issued orange and yellow alerts in various districts.

Isolated places in these districts are likely to receive very heavy rainfall. The IMD defines very heavy rainfall as rainfall of 115.6 mm to 204.4 mm in 24 hours.
