Elderly couple found dead after consuming poison

AMBALAVAYAL: An elderly couple was found dead after consuming poison in Wayanad. The deceased have been identified as Ambalavayal Aayiramkolly natives Joseph (82) and his wife Mary. Both of them were found lying unconscious in the Ambalavayal bus stand on Tuesday night. A bottle of poison was also found lying near them. Although Joseph and Mary were immediately rushed to the hospital by the locals, their lives could not be saved.

Joseph had been running a granite quarry in Ayiramkolly since 1986. However, the family's source of revenue came to a halt when the district administration banned all quarries in the region, including his, due to environmental concerns. He had to sell his three acres of land because of his financial liabilities. Joseph and his wife were forced to shift to a rented house. The couple has two daughters named Daisy and Gracy. They had been living with Gracy for the last few months.
