THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In protest against the heinous rape-murder in Kolkata, the Indian Medical Association of Kerala state announced a 24-hour strike in medical colleges and private hospitals in the state on Saturday. OP services and previously scheduled surgeries (not critical ones) will be affected. Doctors from government medical colleges and junior doctors have already started the protest on Friday.

On Friday, MBBS PG students and house surgeons in Kerala hit the streets in protest against the gruesome murder of a nurse in Uttarakhand, just days after the heinous brutal murder of a junior doctor in West Bengal’s RG Kar hospital. OP services were affected in Kerala while many surgeries were also postponed. Major hospitals in the city such as SCT and RCC were seriously affected by the protest.

Regional Cancer Centre (RCC) has already informed patients and their relatives about postponing minor surgeries previously scheduled on Saturday. The protest will continue till 6 am on Sunday.
