KOLLAM: KSRTC has introduced a new scheme to address the retail problem and promote digital payments with the launch of the "Chalo Travel Card." This smart travel card will be rolled out in the district during the Onam festival, as part of the government's 100-day action plan.
The Chalo Travel Card, which utilizes RFID technology for enhanced security, is modeled after season tickets. Following its successful launch in Thiruvananthapuram district last December, the decision was made to extend the scheme to other districts.
Chalo Mobility Solutions Private Limited has secured the tender for the project, and employee training on the card's usage is currently underway. The card will also come with various offers depending on the amount recharged.
With the introduction of new ticket machines, users can check their balance by entering the card number or scanning a QR code. The card will be valid for use on long-distance services as well. The contracting company will provide card printing machines, servers, necessary paper and four computers at all major depots. As per the agreement, KSRTC will pay 13 paise per ticket processed through the Chalo Travel Card, while the contracting company will handle the annual maintenance of the machines and data analytics costs.
Onam advance ticketing
In addition to the Chalo Travel Card, KSRTC is also offering the Chalo Travel App for Onam, where passengers can book tickets in advance. The app provides customers with card details, live bus tracking and seat availability.
To promote the Chalo Travel Card, KSRTC is offering a special deal: a card purchased for Rs. 100 will receive a balance of Rs. 150. Additionally, a 10 percent surcharge will be applied for those recharging Rs. 250 or more. The card's validity is one year.
