KOCHI: Some heated exchanges of words are going on in the Film Employees Federation of Kerala (FEFKA) soon after the release of the Hema Committee report. Director Ashiq Abu has resigned from the organization. He stepped down after harshly criticizing the association’s leadership. In a press release, he informed that he was resigning from the primary membership of the organization in strong disagreement and protest against the hypocritical leadership. After the release of the Hema Committee report, Ashiq Abu came publicly against the leadership.
‘After the release of the Hema Committee report, the criminal silence of this organization, the few text exercises that were released in the name of a press release, 'we will study and opine' and 'suggestions that we don't need emotional reactions' disappointed me as a member. This organization and the leadership have failed to fulfill their social responsibility.
‘In strong disagreement and protest against the hypocritical leadership, I am hereby resigning from FEFKA primary membership,’ Ashiq Abu said in the release.
Ashiq Abu had earlier openly criticized B Unnikrishnan. 'B Unnikrishnan is doing hypocritical work. All 21 unions in FEFKA should discuss this openly. He is one involved in the criminal activities and labor violations that took place here. The government should recognize this. Unnikrishnan destroyed MACTA. FEFKA has been aligned with B Unnikrishnan. He tied the labour organization to a feudalistic shed. He accused Unnikrishnan of taking control of countermeasures from behind the scenes and challenged him to publicly address these allegations if he has the courage to face society. Ashiq Abu also called for Unnikrishnan's removal from the film policy formulation committee, arguing that the industry's labor issues would be better handled in his absence.
