KOCHI: Legendary Malayalam actress Sheela responded to the controversies circling the Malayalam industry over the release of the Hema committee report.
Sheela:
“Watching the issue unfold on television left me surprised and sad. Even if these actresses approach police or court for justice, the evidence needs to be submitted. Where will they go for this evidence? If someone comes out of nowhere and hugs us, how can we submit the evidence? Should we ask that person to repeat the act so that we can grab it on camera? In old days, miscreants would find our landline number and would call us to engage in gibberish talks. There was no option to record calls back then. How will we hand over the evidence?
I have a lot of respect for WCC for their awe-inspiring fight for justice. They have been in this from the very start. They are beautiful and talented but sacrificed their career for the fight. But I don't understand what a power group is.
Even though I have acted in protagonist roles in movies such as ‘Stanarthi Saramma’, I was paid less than the male actors. If a woman plays the central character, she is obliged to get higher pay than any other male casting in that movie”
