ALAPPUZHA: The police have revealed that it was the mother who killed the missing newborn baby in Cherthala. The baby's mother, Asha (36) and her friend Ratheesh (38), who live in the 17th Ward of Pallipuram Panchayat, were arrested. The baby's body was found in Ratheesh's house. The body was hidden in the toilet. The mother initially said that she had handed over the newborn baby to a childless native of Tripunithura. The police are interrogating the woman and her friend in the incident.

The woman had hidden the information that she was pregnant. The woman said that she had a lump in her stomach. ASHA workers stated that the woman had said that she did not have the financial capacity to raise one more child.

Asha, a mother of two, left the hospital on August 31 after giving birth. However, the third child was not with her when she reached home. After the baby went missing, ASHA workers informed the people's representatives and then Cherthala police. When ASHA workers asked about the baby, the lady replied that the baby was given to a childless couple in Tripunithura. It is reported that when the woman went to the hospital for delivery, her husband did not go with her and asked someone else to take care of her. The police reached the hospital and collected information.
