THRISSUR: PV Anvar MLA's claim that ADGP MR Ajith Kumar messed up Thrissur Pooram so that BJP can open an account in Kerala has become a matter of controversy. Opposition leader VD Satheesan alleged that the Chief Minister had conspired so that Suresh Gopi would win the election. VS Sunilkumar, the LDF candidate in Thrissur, asked what problem the BJP have regarding the information about Pooram rioters coming out and said that the investigation report should be made public.

BJP State Vice President Adv B Gopalakrishnan alleged that Sunil Kumar, who was the saviour in 2016, became the destroyer of Pooram in 2024. He said that it was he who had complained to the High Court and the government about the disorder in Pooram. However, Sunil Kumar's counter question was whether anyone would have the impression that the Left would win if Pooram was spoiled. He said that he has sent an e-mail to the Chief Minister to release the inquiry report.

Congress and CPI allege that the intervention of Suresh Gopi, who reached the spot as soon as Pooram was disturbed, is mysterious. It is also alleged that ADGP MR Ajith Kumar, North Zone DIG Raman, Thrissur DIG Ajitha Begum etc. were all in Thrissur on the day of Pooram but did not intervene.

Controversy after closing Swaraj round

  • On the day of Pooram, the police did not allow the elephants and Devaswom officials to pass through the south tower gate.
  • Swaraj round closed using barricades while the procession was coming quoting fireworks.
  • The people and media workers were assaulted. Video footage of organizers being manhandled also emerged. The Thiruvambady Devaswom suspended the Pooram as the night procession was interrupted. Pakalppooram was held after discussions that started at night and lasted till dawn.

"The ADGP messed up Pooram for the Chief Minister by staying in Thrissur. The investigation in Karuvannur ended after BJP won the election.

- V.D. Satheesan, Leader of the Opposition

'None of the CPI leaders will be among the Pooram disruptors. Let the BJP reveal the political affiliation of the ex-commissioner".

- VS Sunil Kumar
