There were high hopes when the makers of Mr Bachchan, written and directed by Harish Shankar and starring Ravi Teja, decided to release the movie on August 15th. Despite the holiday release, the movie, made at a budget of Rs 70 crores doomed at the box office. The film has hitherto amassed only Rs 14 crores, inflicting significant loss for the producers.
In a genial gesture, lead actor Ravi Teja returned Rs 4 crore from the amount received as remuneration for the movie. Director Harish Shankar had returned 2 crores. Trade analysts have rated Mr Bachchan as one of the biggest failures in Telugu this year.
Mr Bachchan is a Telugu remake of the 2018 Bollywood film Raid starring Ajay Devgn. The big acceptance of the movie within the Telugu audience prompted the makers to do a remake, but the attempt went in vain.
Ravi Teja has signed a contract with People Media Factory for four films including Mr Bachchan. Before the film's release, 56-year-old Ravi Teja faced serious criticism for his sensual dance performance with 25-year-old Bhagyashri Borse. The excessive glamour in the songs also raised the eyebrows of several critics.
