KOLKATA: The Calcutta court on Saturday was left red-faced after CBI’s lawyer failed to make it to the court on time. The agency’s lawyer arrived 40 minutes later while considering the case of the brutal rape of a PG doctor in RG Kar hospital. The court gave a dressing down to CBI for their lackadaisical approach in a case of grave importance.

CBI was criticized by the Sealdah court magistrate during the hearing related to accused Sanjay Roy's bail plea. Chief Judicial Magistrate Pamela Gupta was informed that the public prosecutor would be arriving late while the accused's lawyer is making bail arguments. An irked court then asked whether the accused should be granted bail. The court also said that the attitude of the CBI in the case was unfortunate.

The argument continued after the arrival of the public prosecutor. After hearing the argument, the court remanded Sanjay Roy to 14-day judicial custody. The Trinamool Congress came forward to criticize CBI and BJP over the incident.

"It has been more than 24 days since the CBI took over the case. What is the result?" Trinamool Congress leader Chandrima Bhattacharya alleged the CBI trying to sabotage justice in the case.

Accused Sanjay Roy was arrested for allegedly raping and then murdering a trainee doctor in R G Kar hospital. The body of the doctor was found in a seminar hall in the hospital on August 9th.
