THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Hours after ADGP MR Ajith Kumar admitted yesterday that he had met with RSS General Secretary Dattatreya Hosabale in Thrissur, it has now come to light that he had also held a meeting with another senior BJP leader at a five-star hotel in Kovalam last year. Following this, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan urgently summoned DGP Darvesh Saheb on Saturday night. The details of their meeting are yet to be revealed. ADGP Ajith Kumar is going on leave for four days, but it is scheduled from September 14 to 17.
Ajith Kumar met former RSS spokesperson R Ram Madhav at the resort in Kovalam in December last year. A senior figure in the political-administrative arena and another prominent individual were also present. Meanwhile, Opposition leader VD Satheesan sharpened his allegations, by claiming that a member of the cabinet was part of the team sent from the Chief Minister's office.
Ram Madhav was in Thiruvananthapuram to participate in RSS 'chintan shivir'. The meeting lasted for around 1 hour.
The ADGP had informed the Chief Minister that the meeting with RSS General Secretary Dattatreya Hosabale in Thrissur on May 23, 2023, was a private visit. He stated that he met the RSS leader at the invitation of RSS leader Jayakumar, his former classmate. In order to keep the visit low-key, he had travelled in the RSS leader's car instead of his official vehicle. This is significant because, as per the Civil Service Rules, government officials are expected to maintain neutrality and not participate in political discussions or activities.
The issue is being linked to the BJP's victory in the Thrissur Lok Sabha constituency and the controversy surrounding the Thrissur Pooram festival. Ajith and his team met R Ram Madhav in Kovalam along with an RSS leader from Thiruvananthapuram. The meetings have not only political purpose and personal gain but also a mediating nature. A team led by the DGP will investigate the matter.
