PALAKKAD: The body of a 17-year-old youth, who went missing after jumping into the river seeing the excise team, has been found. The body of Suhair of Vallapuzha in Palakkad, was found Sunday morning from Chundampatta Natyamangalam area.
Suhair went missing around 4 pm on Friday. Eight including Suhair were standing in the Narimada area of Aanakkal. Meanwhile, the Pattambi Range Excise team was on patrol. Seeing the excise team, the eight fled from there. Reports said four kilograms of ganja were seized from four of them and a case has been registered against them under the Excise Narcotics Act.
A youth in the team, who jumped into the Thuthapuzha River, and swam to safety, informed Suhair’s family that their son also jumped into the river. Though a search was conducted, he could not be found. As he could not be found even on Saturday morning, his family lodged a complaint with the Cherpulassery police. A search was conducted on the basis of his friend’s statement, still he could not be found.
The Pattambi Fire Rescue Service and the divers of the Fire Rescue Service from Palakkad searched the river from 7.30 am to 5.30 pm on Saturday but could not find him. The search was stopped in the evening as the river got colder. The body was found during the resumption of the search this morning.
The body has been shifted to the hospital for post-mortem. The police have started an investigation into the incident.
