'Time to make way for next generation', Moeen Ali announces retirement from international cricket

LONDON: English cricketer Moeen Ali (37) has announced his retirement from international cricket. It is noteworthy that Moeen Ali announced his retirement after being left out of the team for the Twenty20 series against Australia. The last international match of Ali's career was the semi-final of the Twenty20 World Cup 2024, where England lost against India. The player has made it clear that he will continue to play franchise cricket.

'I am 37 years old. I have not been included in the squad for the Twenty20 series against Aussies starting this month. I played many matches for England. Now there are some signs that it is time to make way for the next generation. This seems like the right time. My work is done. It is with great pride that I bid farewell to international cricket. When I stepped into the England jersey for the first time, I did not know how many matches I would get to play in my career. I got to play about 300 matches', - said Moeen Ali in an interview given to an English media.

Moeen Ali made his debut in international cricket in 2014. He played 68 Tests, 138 ODIs and 92 Twenty20 matches in his international career. He scored 3094 runs at an average of 28.12 in Tests. This includes five centuries and 15 fifties. The highest score was 155 not out.
